{"id":1151,"date":"2020-09-04T03:26:02","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T10:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ilovefreedom.com\/?p=1151"},"modified":"2020-09-04T03:59:41","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T10:59:41","slug":"igniting-a-passion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ilovefreedom.com\/?p=1151","title":{"rendered":"Igniting a Passion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"IMG_4819.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/ilovefreedom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_4819-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 4819\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" border=\"0\" \/>In 1967, when I was 14 years old, I built my first radio &#8211; a Heathkit four band short wave radio with 4 tubes (yes, it was that long ago!). \u00c2\u00a0I learned to solder components on a printed circuit board and tune the radio so it really worked! \u00c2\u00a0What a thrill it was to finally turn it on and experience something I had made come to life!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"IMG_4818.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/ilovefreedom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_4818.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 4818\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" border=\"0\" \/>On a clear Idaho night, with a long wire antenna, I could sometimes pick up an English language broadcast from Johannesburg, South Africa! That budding youthful passion for electronics provided a strong foundation for my technology career.
